I had been on assignment as a first mate on the bounty when the hon. gentleman Captain Blight took over command in early 1762. We left Madras and sail'd through the Indian Sea around the Cape of Good Hope to arrive some times later at St. Helens to get provisions there. Nothing much would happen for months to come, that is, until we took up upon our leeward course after we had left the stormy gales of Cape Hoorn behind us.
After months of hardship we would enjoy the sullen and tranquil waters of the Pacific Ocean, albeit as experienced sailormen in the service of H.M.G. we should have known that this could as well have been the silence afore the proceeding of gale, hail, rainstorm and much troubled waters. So it would prove to be.
